Commencing students should select the check box to be considered for research scholarships when completing the admission application for your postgraduate research degree. A separate application is not required.

Benefits
This scholarship is valued at the minimum RTP stipend rate as published by the Commonwealth Government. The RTP International Scholarship assists with OSHC, tuition fees and living costs.
Who's eligible
You must:
• be a commencing or enrolled international postgraduate research student
• have an outstanding record of academic achievement and research potential
• have an unconditional offer of admission or be currently enrolled in a master's by research or PhD at the University of Sydney.

RTP Stipend International Scholarship
RTP Tuition Fee Offset International Scholarship

The Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarships are provided by the Australian government to support both domestic and international students undertaking postgraduate research degrees.
While applications are open all year round, it is recommended that you submit your HDR admission by October to receive an outcome by February.

Types of scholarships
• RTP Fees Offset Scholarships: offered to domestic students with an unconditional offer to undertake a higher degree by research course at the University of Sydney. This scholarship is supported by the Australian government and provides tuition fees.
• RTP Stipend Scholarships: awarded to students of exceptional research potential to undertake a higher degree by research at an Australian university. These Australian government scholarships are provided to assist with general living costs.
• University of Sydney Postgraduate Awards (UPA): similar to the RTP Scholarships in terms of tenure and benefits. Eligible RTP applicants are automatically considered for these awards.

Supplementary and other scholarships
Some faculties and departments also offer postgraduate research scholarships and supplementary awards with the RTP/UPA process. A separate application is not required, as all eligible RTP/UPA recipients will be automatically considered. The awards will be announced throughout the year, and only recipients will be notified.

RTP Scholarship (International)
Types of scholarships
• RTP Scholarship scheme: funded by the Australian Government, this scholarship provides tuition fees offset and stipend to high quality international postgraduate students who wish to enrol in a research degree at Australian universities. Applications are assessed on academic merit and research potential.
• University of Sydney International Scholarship (UsydIS): this also covers tuition fees and provides a stipend. Those under consideration for an RTP Scholarship will automatically be considered for a UsydIS Scholarship.

How to apply
You can apply for these scholarships at any time of the year, as scholarships are awarded all year round.
To be considered for a scholarship, you must:
1. complete your application for admission in postgraduate research to the relevant faculty, and select the checkbox to be considered for research scholarships
2. ensure your application includes all relevant supporting documents, referring to the RTP/UPA applicant information pack and research experience guide and evidence template (see related documents below).
If you are a current student at the University of Sydney, you will need to apply for the scholarship here.
Unsuccessful applicants are encouraged to reapply if their situation changes (such as the publication of an article or further related professional experience).

Document submission requirements
Academic transcripts
If you are a current student who has previously studied at another university, you must provide copies of your transcripts with your RTP application (even if you have already provided them with your application for entry into the degree).
Evidence of publications, output in the arts or music, professional experience
If we cannot verify your publications, they cannot be counted towards your application. See Section 5.3 of the applicant information pack (pdf, 264KB) and the research experience guide (pdf, 410KB) for details on what you need to provide with your application, and the format to be used.
English language requirements
Please note that results of English Language Proficiency Tests including IELTS, TOEFL and PTE are not required to assess your scholarship application. You may need to submit these documents to the Admission Office for your admission application.
Scanned documents
The University accepts scanned documents submitted online in support of applications for admission to courses of study and photocopy of documents for RTP applications.
All supporting documents must be true and complete records. You should be prepared to provide original documents or original certified copies of supporting documents upon request at any time.
Detailed checking of supporting documents is an inherent element of our admissions and scholarship ranking processes and may involve contacting the original issuing authority or relevant tertiary admissions centre, or other organisation (whether education or otherwise), or individual, whether in Australia or overseas, to verify documents.
A failure to provide documents on request, or the discovery of either fraudulent documents or a misrepresentation of true circumstances in association with your application, may lead to the rejection of your application for admission/scholarship, the withdrawal of your offer, or the cancellation of your enrolment.
Documents submitted in a language other than English must be accompanied by a complete English translation. The University accepts translations to English made by an accredited translator with a government body, the Registrar of the issuing institution.
