There are few surgical specialities which offer such an eclectic mix of interests. The Paediatric Urology unit at SLUT has been developing for more than 20 years and offers the full range of diagnostic techniques (including videourodynamics) to support the modern surgical approach to management of these difficult problems. The three consultant staff are supported by Fellows in Paediatric Urology training posts and six residents on rotation taking care of 55 Paediatric urological beds in a dedicated ward alongside the Paediatric Nephrology unit. A brand new 14 storey children's hospital is under construction. There are three levels of entry to gain experience in this rapidly developing field:
The Fellowship in Paediatric Urology This is a formal programme which is documented by logbook recording of activity and regular assessment. A dissertation is required at the end of the 2 1/2 year period and there is an exit exam. The progamme is designed for a person considering a full time career in Paediatric Urology but could also be valuable to an urologist or paediatric surgeon who, by choice or circumstances, has to manage children in a mixed practice. In general, eligible candidates should possess the FCPS in either Urology or Paediatric Surgery. Two posts are available. The Fellowship in Paediatric Stone Management This is a recently inaugurated programme aimed at enhancing the skills of Urologists or Paediatric Surgeons in the management of urinary tract stones in children from infants to teenagers which is such a common problem in Pakistan. It provides experience with all the modern endoscopic and minimally invasive techniques together with open surgery and lithotripsy. A Fellowship certificate will be given after 1 year of
